Embarking on a motorhome adventure across the UK or Europe is an exciting experience for the whole family. But keeping children entertained during long stretches of driving can be a challenge. To make your journey smooth and enjoyable, we’ve put together a list of fun activities and creative ways to keep little ones engaged while on the road.

1. Audiobooks & Podcasts

Instead of screen time, immerse your kids in captivating audiobooks and podcasts. There are plenty of options available, from classic fairy tales to educational stories that keep them entertained while stimulating their imagination. Popular choices include The Gruffalo, Harry Potter, and The Story Pirates podcast.

2. Travel Activity Packs

Prepare travel-friendly activity packs filled with colouring books, puzzles, sticker sets, and age-appropriate workbooks. These can keep children occupied while allowing them to express their creativity. Magnetic travel games are also a great idea, ensuring pieces don’t get lost while on the move.

3. Interactive Road Trip Games

Classic road trip games never go out of style! Try these family favourites:

  • I Spy – A timeless game that keeps kids engaged with their surroundings.
  • The Number Plate Game – Spot and make words from number plates.
  • 20 Questions – A great game to spark curiosity and conversation.
  • Would You Rather? – A fun and often hilarious way to pass the time.

4. Snacks & Treats

Having a variety of healthy snacks and the occasional treat can be a lifesaver. Pack pre-portioned snacks like fruit, nuts, crackers, and sandwiches to avoid unnecessary stops. Let kids have a say in choosing some of their favourites before setting off.

5. Roadtrip DJ

Music can instantly lift the mood and keep kids engaged. Our motorhomes have Bluetooth connection which makes playing exactly what you want a breeze.

Create a family-friendly playlist with their favourite songs, sing-along classics, and even some educational tunes. Older kids could get involved making their own playlist for you all to enjoy. You could even turn it into a karaoke session for added fun!

6. Screen Time

While limiting screen time is ideal, sometimes a well-timed movie or educational app can work wonders during longer drives. Download a few movies, TV shows, or interactive learning apps in advance to keep them entertained when needed.

7. Scheduled Stops & Mini Adventures

Plan regular breaks to let kids stretch their legs and burn off energy. Look for playgrounds, scenic picnic spots, or quirky roadside attractions. These stops not only prevent boredom but also make the journey part of the adventure.

8. DIY Travel Journals

Encourage children to document their journey with a travel journal. They can draw pictures, write about their experiences, and collect little souvenirs like pressed flowers or postcards from different destinations.

9. Surprise Bags

Prepare small surprise bags with little toys, activity books, or small treats and hand them out at different intervals during the trip. This adds an element of excitement and anticipation to the journey.

10. Get Them Involved in Navigation

Give older kids a simple map and let them help track the journey. Point out landmarks and towns, and encourage them to guess how long until the next stop. This keeps them engaged and gives them a sense of involvement in the adventure.
